“WE HAVE BEEN MADE TO BELIEVE THAT A PERCEPTION,
ANY PERCEPTION ACCEPTED BY THE MAJORITY,
IS THE UNIVERSAL DEFINITION OF A CERTAIN SUBJECT.
WE ARE CONDITIONED TO BE BELIEVERS OF A CERTAIN KIND,
PERHAPS A KIND THAT APPEASES ALL.
AS A YOUNG ARTIST, I WAS DRAWN TO THE DETAILS OF SKULLS
AND I WOULD WONDER WHAT WAS SO INTERESTING ABOUT THEM?
THE WORLD’S QUICK TRANSPARENT DEDUCTION OF THE SUBJECT WAS A MIX OF ARCHAIC STEREOTYPES,
WHICH WAS CONFUSING FOR ME TO COMPREHEND AT THE TIME.
I’D THINK, AREN’T WE ALL BONES UNDERNEATH?
BUT, IT ISN’T THAT SIMPLE AFTER ALL.
THE BURDEN OF ASSOCIATING A SIMPLE PIECE OF ART WITH A HISTORICAL IDEOLOGY
CAN SOMETIMES MAKE YOU QUESTION THE SANCTITY OF EVERYTHING AROUND.”
THIS COLLECTION IS AN ODE TO THE YOUNG REBEL IN ME THAT FOUND SOLACE AND INSPIRATION IN MUSIC.
IT DREW ME TO AN ALTERED STATE OF MIND,
A STATE WHERE MY VEILED EMOTIONS WERE SUDDENLY NOT SO DISGUISED ANY MORE.
IT BROUGHT ABOUT A STRANGE FEELING OF LIGHTNESS AND A SENSE OF EXHILARATING FREEDOM.
MUSIC, THE ROCK GENRE IN PARTICULAR, PLAYED A PIVOTAL ROLE IN THE EMERGENCE OF ME AS A CREATIVE.
‘ALTERED PERCEPTIONS’ REFLECTS THE IDEA OF OPEN MINDEDNESS,
FREE OF THE INCESSANT NEED TO LINK EVERYTHING WITH A PAST IDEOLOGY.
THERE IS NO COMPULSION TO BELIEVE IN EVERYTHING.
THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL APPROACH TO EVERYTHING.
THERE IS A SENSE OF LIGHTNESS,
WHEN WE ARE NOT BURDENED BY AN ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
